“That was unfortunate. That was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “There was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Dallas team.”
He further emphasized that the gesture was completely unintentional, happening amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I just put up the wrong finger,” he noted. “The action was inadvertently performed. I’m not kidding. Should you call it accidental, you can. But it got corrected rapidly.”

This incident isn’t the first time an league proprietor has been penalized for misconduct. Previous examples include:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at spectators in January 2024.
